Barley grass is also the young grass of the grain plant, harvested at a young, tender age to reclaim the sensitive young nutrients. Barley grass contains good doses of Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Selenium, Zinc, 8 essential amino acids, beta carotene, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, B vitamins including traces of B12, vitamin E, vitamin K, and chlorophyll. This grass is also an excellent source of superoxide dismutase, and contains 25% protein, also having an abundance of trace elements. Barley grass is an anti-inflammatory, it also helps disorders of the stomach, duodenum, and pancreas. Barley grass is known as the "heart medicine" in the Middle East. It helps reduce cholesterol and contains antioxidant nutrients. Barley grass, along with wheat grass, is processed in two different ways. Some products are 100% whole grass powder with none of the fiber removed. When dehydrated at a low heat temperature it retains many of its whole food qualities and enhances the body's cleansing capacity. In the other process, the barley grass is juiced and then dehydrated. This process removes the fiber, but it allows quicker assimilation and you may feel its affects sooner. |
