Superfoods Handbook

Welcome to the Superfoods Handbook! This area is meant to be a useful guide to learning more about Superfoods and the many nutritional benefits one gains from their use and consumption. Feel free to browse through the many articles listed below.

Dunaliella

Dunaliella is a red algae that contains the highest known concentration of beta carotene: approximately 10% of the algae weight. It also contains alpha carotene. Dunaliella is not officially a superfood. It cannot be purchased in a bulk powder on the retail market. It is only contained in a few capsulized superfood products.

Dunaliella has been used in anti-cancer research and has had many promising results in reduction of tumors and cancer cells. Although these beneficial effects are being studied, Dunaliella is demanded in pharmaceutical markets where the beta-carotene is extracted for supplement use. The other nutrients in this red algae do not compare with the concentrations contained in any of the other blue-green algae. Because of this Dunaliella has not yet expanded into the natural foods market.
