Superfoods Handbook

Welcome to the Superfoods Handbook! This area is meant to be a useful guide to learning more about Superfoods and the many nutritional benefits one gains from their use and consumption. Feel free to browse through the many articles listed below.

Micro-Algae

Micro-algae are the most nutrient rich foods for humans and other animal found on the planet. Blue green algae are known for their potent nutritional properties. The nutrients they contain are most of what the human physiology needs plus other nutrients that are known to be very beneficial.

Blue green algae is also being used in the animal feed industry. They have been known to boost the health of the animal, effectively avoiding the need for anti-biotic use to combat infection in cows, horses, goats, sheep, chicken, fish, dogs, and cats.

The scientific term for blue-green algae is cyanobacteria. They are responsible for 90% of the oxygen production on the planet. Through the photosynthetic process, the algae cleanse the atmosphere of excess carbon dioxide and in turn replace it with oxygen. These blue green algae and chlorella, which is a green algae, have been used to research many new methods of producing energy and raw materials. UC Berkeley and Photosynthesis (UK) Ltd. are using chlorella and spirulina growing systems to effectively manage waste. In this method, the algae live in and eat the waste water, cleaning the water of the sewage in the process. When harvested, this algae is burned to produce electricity. The excess heat and carbon dioxide of this burning is recycled back to heat the sewage water to, in turn, feed more algae. These systems are self-sufficient and require no external inputs. Other industrial uses of algae are carbon dioxide recycling for industry, natural dyes, food grade pharmaceutical extracts, plastics and paper. Although algae research is still in the early stages of development, many of these processes are in practical use in South American field projects. With the growing need for renewable resources, it is very likely that these technologies will become well known through out the world in future generations.
